Metrics
Here are a few use cases for this project:
-
Recycling Management Systems: The PECO model could be used in industrial recycling facilities to sort objects by recycling class, increasing efficiency and reducing human error. The model can quickly identify whether a material is a 2, 1, 3, 0, can, or 4 and sort it accordingly.
-
Intelligent Waste Bin: For residential and commercial use, a smart waste bin could use PECO to automatically identify the recycling class of the object being thrown away and sort it into the corresponding section, promoting recycling efforts and environmental conservation.
-
Recycling Education Applications: This AI model could be integrated into an educational application designed to teach users about recycling. The app could use real-life images of recyclables and ask users to identify their class, using PECO to confirm the correctness.
-
Supermarket Sustainability Initiatives: Retailers could use PECO to provide immediate feedback to customers on how to dispose of product packaging. For example, a scanner at the exit could identify the recycling class of the item packaging, helping customers recycle correctly.
-
Public Waste Management: Municipalities could use the model in public spaces to identify and sort recyclables left in public trash bins or found during city-wide cleanups. This would help cities more effectively manage waste and promote recycling.
