Description

Here are a few use cases for this project:

  1. Aiding the Visually Impaired: The MAS-ALHAR Dataset, given its rich visual data, could be leveraged to develop assistive technologies for visually impaired individuals. By identifying various elements and landmarks, applications could provide real-time audio descriptions to visually impaired pilgrims, enhancing their experience and allowing them to engage more fully with the pilgrimage. Such tools can not only guide them through the area safely but also narrate the significance of each landmark, bridging the gap between visual information and auditory understanding.

  2. Pilgrimage Monitoring and Management: The MAS-ALHAR Dataset could be used in real-time monitoring systems aiming to manage and control pilgrimage activities in Mecca. By identifying different elements like the Kaaba, Kaaba door, or different corners (rkn_haj, rkn_yam), this could assist security teams and event organizers in better managing crowds, anticipating risks, and ensuring people's safety.

  3. Virtual Reality Experiences: The dataset could be utilized in VR/AR applications to create immersive religious experiences for those who are unable to physically visit Mecca. By identifying different components of the Kaaba, the system would enable users to explore the area virtually.

  4. Historical and Cultural Study Tools: The dataset could be applied in digital humanities methods to analyze patterns, changes or consistencies in pilgrimage practices over time. For instance, universities or research institutes could use the dataset to document and study the cultural, historical or religious aspects of the Hajj.

  5. Location-Based Services: Applications requiring location identification within the Mecca area could utilize this model. By identifying distinct landmarks, it would enhance navigation systems, helping pilgrims navigate the crowded areas and find their way efficiently.

  6. App for Pilgrims: The dataset could be used to develop applications dedicated to helping pilgrims have a smooth Hajj experience. For instance, it could use the identification of the Kaaba, doors, corners, etc., to inform users about when they have reached certain crucial points, when they've completed specific rituals or tasks, and guide them towards the next steps throughout their Hajj journey. This way, it will provide a digital assistant that guides the pilgrims at each step of their journey.
