Bee Detector Computer Vision Project
Updated 2 years ago
Metrics
This project attempts to do exactly what the name implies, Detect Bees. At present this is with the emphasis on Honey Bees. Initially it is intended as an aid to actually obtaining more images of bees that can be added to the project to improve its performance. In the long term it is intended to be able to classify the bees it detects as Varroa carriers, malformed bees and other types of insects such as bee predators e.g. wasps, hornets. To date all images have been obtained using a DSLR set up to take time lapse photographs. The current aim however is to use an Oak-D-Lite distance sensing camera connected to a RPi 4 to not only detect bees et. al. but to obtain images of them that are in focus. In focus images it is hoped will enable more accurate determination of target bee classifications i.e. Varraoa carriers, malformed etc.
