Here are a few use cases for this project:
-
Waste Management and Recycling: Can be used in automation of waste sorting facilities where it can separate cottonfioc from bottles (bottiglia), plastic cups (bicchiere), polystyrene (polistirolo), caps (tappo), masks (mascherina), bags (buste), and gloves (guanto).
-
Robot Maintenance: Robots equipped with this computer vision model can identify and sort waste in public spaces, on the streets, or in rivers and oceans helping to reduce littering and pollution.
-
Environmental Research: Researchers can use the model to study the distribution and variety of waste in different environments. It can help understand how much different waste materials (like cottonfloc, plastic bottles, etc.) contribute to the total pollution.
-
Educational Tool: Could be used in educational programs to teach students about different types of waste, their visual characteristics, and how to properly dispose of them.
-
Smart City Initiative: The model can be incorporated into city cameras to monitor public spaces for littering and identify the most common types of waste left behind. This would help in designing more effective waste management strategies.
