Description

My Al project will focus on identifying blood cancer, specifically B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). It is a clonal malignant disease characterized by an accumulation of early B cells. This abnormal growth causes the suppression of normal hematopoiesis and the infiltration of vital organs. ALL is characterized by small to medium sized leukemic blasts with a rather low grade of cell-to-cell variability. The nucleocytoplasmic ratio is high with just a small cytoplasmic rim in many cases. The cytoplasm tends to be moderately basophilic. By recognizing these histological patterns, this project aims to contribute to the field of pathology by providing more accurate or somehow a high probability as to correct diagnoses, as well as facilitating the easy recognition of this particular disease. Ultimately, this will benefit patients and healthcare professionals.
