Description

Maltese Domestic Dataset (MDD) The Maltese Domestic Dataset (MDD) is an open-source, annotated collection of images showcasing domestic waste bags photographed in streets across Malta. It serves as a valuable resource for researchers and developers looking to build machine learning models, particularly custom object detectors, for waste classification and environmental management.

This dataset is meticulously organized into four main categories to facilitate automated waste classification, enabling more efficient waste management systems.

Categories The dataset categorizes waste bags into the following classes:

  1. Mixed Waste (Black Bags): General refuse waste bags.
  2. Organic Waste (White Bags): Bags used for organic waste, such as food scraps and garden materials.
  3. Recyclable Material (Grey Bags): Bags containing recyclable materials like paper, plastic, and metal.
  4. Other Waste: Miscellaneous waste bags that do not fit into the above categories.
